Building ML products, generally fun podcast, and the best thing on the interwebs!
Hey there!
What’s happening this week?
Want to build Machine Learning Products? Get creative!
Machine Learning is a powerful tool to supercharge your product, but it’s poorly understood because of the belief that complex mathematical knowledge is necessary to use it. As a product person, you don’t need to invest in the math of Machine Learning. Understanding the basics is great, but the role of a product person is to add creativity and a user perspective in the ML process.
In this post, I talk about the basic concepts I use to build ML products. More importantly, I have some examples on why and how to get creative with ML and flex your product muscles. Click here for the post.
Devika Lal, Product Manager @Google in a generally fun podcast
Devika and I talk about being a PM at Google, her product process, and what she’s working on. We’ve also covered some interesting ones - do you need to have a technical background to be a PM? (No, but she has one). Do you need to go to b-school? (No, and she didn’t go to one).
The podcast is about 30 minutes, and we have a generally fun chat. If you’d rather read than listen, or if 30 minutes seems too much, the transcript (3 min read) is included with the link. Click here for the post.
The best thing on the interwebs
Gustaf Alströmer on how to get users and grow. Alströmer joined Y Combinator after a stint leading AirBnB’s growth team. In this talk, he describes strategies for scaling user bases. I especially enjoyed the structured approach to growth, seems almost formulaic! The video is part of Y Combinator’s online series for startups and entrepreneurs.
And that’s a wrap!
